'Peregrino' is Spanish for pilgrim, a word that I came to appreciate after walking 900 km along the way of the pilgrims, the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, in Spain, not too long ago. Along the way, I carried an "old-school" film camera, taking photos as I went. It was not until I returned home and finally had my film developed that I found this photo. I was so impressed by it because, besides being striking, it reminds me of what there is to love about photography.
Certainly, there is skill required in taking photographs, which can be enhanced with technology and, if you are into it, gimmicks.
For me, much of the skill is in timing, location, situation. Even then we have very little control over those matters, except for our willingness to be there and be available to what may present itself. It is in those situations, when, with the often hasty calculation of exposure, and the final commitment to the button, that something wonderful may be recorded. Then I will have something to be treasured — the dissolving contrails of jet airliners against a folded-up-paper sky, as they miraculously converge with the silhouette of a proud toro — a moment of unbridled and gasping wedding party joy — or the soft bellied newsagent waiting for the workday rush, protected by an armour of magazines at 6am.
By being there, and being able, I am ready to create great images from great moments, to which time will add a value that is priceless.
So, please, take the journey to view my photographs. Peregrino Photography can document and capture almost anything—from weddings to travel and documentary, publicity or product shots, events or portraits. If you like what you see here, and are interested to know if we could work together, be in touch.
"If you take a picture of a human that does not make him noble, there is no reason to take this picture."
